Looking for gorgeous, convenient places for maternity photos near Chantilly? Here are my top five outdoor locations within ~20 minutes of 20151—each with tips for parking, best light, and what we’ll do if rain pops into the forecast.

1) Ellanor C. Lawrence Park (Walney Pond & Cabell’s Mill) – Chantilly

Vibe: Wooded trails, stone bridges, a serene pond, tall grasses, and a charming historic mill.
Parking: Free lots by the Walney Visitor Center and Cabell’s Mill. Arrive 10 minutes early; lots are close but trails meander.
Best Light: Golden hour (about 60–90 minutes before sunset) gives dreamy rim light along the pond and fields. Morning light is soft here too if you prefer a quieter park.
Rain Plan: Cabell’s Mill has covered areas and tall tree canopies that still look great in a sprinkle. If it turns to steady rain, we’ll reschedule.

2) Sully Historic Site – Chantilly

Vibe: Historic house, split-rail fences, old trees, and open lawn—clean, timeless backdrops that flatter every outfit.
Parking: Main lot near the entrance. It’s a short, flat walk to the best photo spots—easy in heels and long gowns.
Best Light: Late afternoon into sunset for warm, even skin tones and gorgeous highlights on the house and fences.
Rain Plan: Covered porches and overhangs can buy us time during passing showers; otherwise we pivot to a new date.

3) Frying Pan Farm Park – Herndon

Vibe: Rustic barns, white fences, meadows, and farm paths. Perfect if you love a cozy, pastoral look.
Parking: Free lots near the Country Store/Visitor Center and by the barns. Weekdays are quieter; weekends can get busy with events.
Best Light: Sunset for warm, golden fields; mid-morning also works well if you want fewer visitors around the barns.
Rain Plan: Barn overhangs and porches give us some covered options for light drizzle; we’ll reschedule if the forecast turns soggy.

4) Bull Run Regional Park – Centreville

Vibe: Wooded trails, open fields, and seasonal wildflowers; wide variety in a single stop.
Parking: Main lot by the Operations/Visitor area or near trailheads; we’ll pick the closest lot to the look you want (field vs. woods).
Best Light: About an hour before sunset—trees create beautiful depth and bokeh. Spring mornings here are lovely and quiet.
Rain Plan: Tall pines can offer partial cover for passing mist; for true rain, we’ll choose a new date.

5) Manassas National Battlefield Park (Stone Bridge Area) – Manassas

Vibe: Sweeping meadows, historic bridge, long grass, and classic Virginia skies—romantic and cinematic.
Parking: Stone Bridge lot usually has space; it’s a short walk to the bridge and fields. Bring comfy shoes; we can swap into heels on-site.
Best Light: Sunset—soft, honeyed light across the fields. Winter sunsets here are especially dramatic.
Rain Plan: Minimal cover on the open fields; we’ll reschedule if rain is likely or pivot to a tree-covered spot nearby.

Quick Notes on Permits, Crowds & Comfort

  • Permits: Some parks require a photography permit for professional sessions.
  • Crowds: We’ll pick less trafficked corners and start a bit earlier.
  • Outfits & Access: Long gowns photograph beautifully in tall grass and open fields. Bring flat shoes for walking between spots, plus a small tote for touch-ups.
  • Best Time of Year: Spring blooms, summer greens, and fall foliage each have their own magic. We’ll match your wardrobe to the season for a cohesive look.
  • Weather Monitoring: I watch the forecast closely and touch base 24 hours prior. If rain threatens, we’ll decide together—covered nooks, clear umbrellas for a romantic drizzle look, or a no-stress reschedule.
